I was very motivated to get some things done today. I got a couple of pictures hung for my wife and decided I’d finally get around to changing out the deadbolt on the back door that hasn’t worked since before we moved in.
That ended out being a massive pain in the ass, and it may have completely sapped me of any desire to get more done. They apparently replaced the lock-set at some point and never bothered to do anything about the fact that the hole in the jam wasn’t the right depth for the new deadbolt. The lock on the handle worked so I guess that was considered good enough. I now know that I desperately need to sharpen my chisels. Now I just need to shim the door because it’s not square in the frame, replace some old crappy weather stripping, and add a limiter on the hinge so it can’t accidentally be opened too far and let the door hit the corner cupboard behind it. I’m sure I’ll get that all done in no time.

It is. I feel like I would be perfectly happy to drink a shitload of beer and watch hockey replays. But I can’t. I haven’t had a symphony gig in 6 weeks, and I won’t have another one until at least July. I feel absolutely no need to take my horn out of the case except for the few lessons I’m teaching on line. My son is practicing more than I am, and probably sounding better.

I have made the executive decision that I will let the rest of the tasks on the door wait. I don’t have new weather stripping, and have no intention of going to a home improvement store right now for just that.
I have a few other small things I’ll probably take care of instead. My wife bought a basket she wants me to hang on the wall for sorting mail, and there’s a small bit of bead board that has detached from the wall in the entryway. I think following a bit of time spent thinking things over with a cold beer I’ll tackle those two and call it a successful day.

That actually gives me an idea. I’ve got a towel bar I’ve been meaning to hang up in the bathroom. Maybe I’ll do that. Gotta clean the bathroom first, though....

Crap, that reminds me I was asked to see if i could find time to put up one of those too. The issue is the bathroom has a weird design and theres not a good place for it.

We’ve a number of projects around the house that need doing. The real challenge is getting the order right - the office has to be emptied so there’s room to empty the cabinets so the cabinets can be modified and moved so the stuff can organized and put back into the cabinets so we can get the stuff out of the living room which used to be in the office which was emptied so I could have a place to work.
The storage building shuffle is similar. I need the correct color code so I can order the siding for the building which will require a trip down to Home Depot because they are the only store carrying the matching brand and color and they will have to deliver the siding so we might as well order the insulation from them and some sheets of plywood so I can tackle the other projects waiting for supplies. The floor must be painted but I the only paint store carrying the kind of paint I want to buy is currently closed and I can’t move forward with the shelving until the floor is done which means I can’t get the stuff out of the garage which the storage building was built to store in the first place.
I think I’ll just sit here and post on Oppo for a while.

Same. We are currently using two hooks, but the towels get smelling funky then they don’t hang flat. This one will have to go over the commode. I really need a double hanger, but I already have a single, and I’m not going to the home store.

Sounds like a good plan. We got new PCs set up for my boys yesterday. But that really meant taking everything off the computer table, moving the table out, cleaning the nasty table, vacuuming, wiping the window sill, etc. I told the boys that you never move furniture without cleaning behind it before you put it back.

Our issue is the main bathroom is open to the master bath. Their isn’t really a wall by the sink that has enough room to mount a bar that won’t narrow the walkway. I’m tempted to add construction adhesive to my eventual Lowe’s run and mount it to the center of the huge mirror over the double vanity.
Guess I can have another beer and decide how best to do that.

I usually spend much of my time at home during the week, so it’s not that different for me. Except that I used to go out at night for rehearsals and concerts. Those I really miss. Probably won’t be playing again until July 4 at the earliest.

I think it’s just a name the artist chose for the illustration. I don’t think it refers to anything. Here’s the Cunningham family with a few hangers on. Richie is in the front right, his sister is in the middle. Then there’s Fonzie, Ralph Malph, and Potsie.

Best to crack the beer and then stand in the bathroom, so it looks like you are being very thoughtful about the placement while you are actually just drinking the beer.

That’s good advice. I got one of the two old PCs running last night. It was being used an in-home file server before I started moving things around. I was hoping to get it as a second folding machine, but it’s still running XP and I’m not willing to go through the effort to get it working for that. I have other things on my plate at the moment.

I’m going to take one of the one of the old PCs and see if I can turn it into a Minecraft server. I raided them for RAM to put in the new machines, though, and I many not have any to put in them.

I decided the best course of action was to start quietly putting my tools away. If asked I will distract her by suggesting that I grill some steaks and asparagus for dinner.
By the time the coals are ready, steaks are cooked, and dinner is complete I can be enough beers into the night that power tools will be a bad idea.

My bed has a couple of big drawers that slide out the sides. I’ve never actually used them as designed, but instead just throw loose stuff in them when necessary. I don’t want to think about was has accumulated there in the last eight years

HD was set in “1950s Milwaukee,” and the Korean War was 1950-1953, so I suppose it’s possible.

If you’re going to do it, it might work better on a linux system. Ours was originally hosted on an old computer running XP. It was easily overwhelmed. The new one is still on windows, but it has a lot of memory and a Xeon processor. After my relative success on building a linux folding box, I’m tempted to move our server over to another linux box and see how it performs.

Any older PC would have Win 7 on it. And I know nothing about Linux. I wonder if I could set it up on my iMac. It’s worth a try I suppose.

My “older” PCs are running XP. :(
MineOS has a “turnkey” version. Just download the ISO, burn it to a cd or USB stick, and use it to install a version of Linux already optimized for hosting a Minecraft server with the latest version of Minecraft server already installed. It will be the same process as installing Windows from scratch.
